    CCMH has a three room ER department staffed with seven board certified Family Practice physicians and one board certified General Surgeon. Annual ER visits are approximately 1,400 with 600, or 25%, being admitted to the hospital for further care.

    We are in a trauma network with Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota hospitals, which are approximately 45 minutes away by helicopter.

    We have a two-vehicle in-house ambulance service staffed by 15 volunteers. The ambulance service volunteers consist of EMTs and paramedics that are trained in the latest emergency procedures and equipment. The ambulance service covers an area that is approximately 475 square miles, with a population of approximately 10,000 and an annual run volume of 430.

    The operating room department includes two operating room suites each which consists of an operating room and an adjoining recovery room. We also have a same-day surgery area. We do most major surgical procedures including laparoscopic and laser. We have upper and lower video endoscopic equipment available. Outreach surgical specialties include urology, opthalmology, ENT, orthopedics, and podiatry. We do a large number of same-day procedures utilizing local, IV sedation and general anesthesia. We have a full time anesthetist on staff 24 hours per day. Our annual surgical volume is approximately 1,050 cases.

    Assisted Living and Nursing Home Care Back to Top
    Copper Glen, a place where older adults can enjoy the warmth of home, security, friendship of family and the opportunity for privacy and independence all in a county setting where you will find assisted living at its best.

    Luther Haven is a full service, non-profit, skilled 120 bed facility serving an area covering southwestern Minnesota. One of the many attributes is that they offer a campus style location of the medical facilities which are the nursing home, assisted living facility, hospital and clinic all connected by an indoor passageway.

    CCMH handles approximately 150 births per year. C-Section rate (33/year), inductions (29/year), instrumentation (7/year). All medical personnel are NALS certified and updated regularly on new drugs and procedures. With the help of fetal monitors, infant warmers, oximeters, oxy-hoods, apnea monitors, and isolettes we can care for most newborns within our facility, if needed, we have direct access to Fairview University Medical Center neonatal intensive care consultation.

    Cardiac Rehabilitation / Secondary Prevention Programs are designed to help facilitate recovery from heart attack, heart surgery, and or other cardiovascular problems such as angina or heart failure.
    This comprehensive program is customized for each individual patient and is designed to help patients return to full and productive lives. The program emphasis is on improved quality of life achieved through lifestyle changes including risk factor modifications, exercise, counseling and education involving patient and family for living a healthier life.

    A physician’s referral is required for participation in the program. You are eligible for the program if you:
    • Have heart disease, such as angina or heart failure
    • Have had coronary bypass surgery, a balloon catheter procedure such as PTCA or Stenting or heart valve surgery.
    • Have had a heart transplant.

    Phases of cardiac Rehabilitation
    Phase I: This phase begins in the hospital following a heart attack, heart surgery, or stable angina. Emphasis is placed on gradual progression of exercise in order to reach the highest level of mobility prior to leaving the hospital.

    Phase II: This phase begins after hospital discharge and includes close observation with telemetry heart monitoring each session. An individual program is designed to increase each patient’s strength and endurance, while decreasing their risk for further cardiac complications. Patients meet three times per week for six to twelve weeks.

    Phase III: This phase includes exercise with supervision and vital sign documentation at each session. This ongoing program may include individuals with a variety of diagnosis which meets two to three days per week.

    The rehabilitation team includes: Medical Director, your doctor, specially trained registered nurses, exercise physiologist, registered dietician, and clinical pharmacists. Our staff is certified in both Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

    Cardiology Services Include:
    • Holter arrhythmia monitors
    • Cardiac Event Monitoring
    • Pulse-ox overnight oxygen saturation monitoring
    • Nuclear Perfusion Cardiac Stress Testing with and without pharmacological agent supervised by on staff physicians.
    • We also offer Cardiology Outreach coverage in–house weekly with Cardiologists coming from Central Minnesota Heart Center and the St. Cloud Hospital

    Cancer Care Infusion Center Back to Top
    The hospital’s oncology department provides innovative approaches to cancer treatment in addition to complete traditional care. Nurses trained and certified in oncology work with patients and their families to help them maintain their quality of life and find the best way to live with and beyond cancer. The outpatient chemotherapy program is designed to allow cancer patients the ability to receive their care and treatments close to home.

    Outpatient chemotherapy treatments are available Monday through Friday with flexible scheduling to meet the needs of the patient. A certified oncology nurse gives individualized care to the patient during the treatment course. Cancer Care Staff are skilled in giving care to patients both professionally and compassionately.
    Education regarding cancer-related issues is provided.

    Oncology certified nurses, along with the pharmacists, work closely with the referring oncologist and the patient’s personal physician.

    The oncologist sees patients at our facility on a weekly basis. For more information about our chemotherapy and infusion services or oncology clinic, please call 320-321-8182 8:00AM- 4:30PM, Monday-Friday.

    The Cancer Care Infusion Center also provides injections and intravenous treatments for patients with other medical diagnosis. They work with local physicians and specialists appropriate to patient’s diagnosis.


    Dialysis (Total Renal Care) Back to Top
    The Dialysis department is currently managed by Total Renal Care. The department currently serves up to six patients three days per week. The Dialysis unit is currently staffed with four personnel, and two Nephrologists performing outreach from Minneapolis. This is an outpatient unit only. We currently serve patients within a 50 - 60 mile radius of Montevideo.

    Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital is dedicated to the health and wellness of all residents of this area.

    MINI-FAIRS: Annually, a mini-fair is held at the hospital where community people may learn more about the own state of health. We offer these services at the fairs:

    Education on Cancer, Diabetes, Heart Disease and AIDS.

    The hospital also serves as a resource service in cooperation with community organizations including:

    Hospice Program and Home Care Back to Top
    CCMH has a hospital based home care program and Medicare Certified hospice program that provide on-call services 24 hours per day, seven days per week for their patients. Physicians, with the assistance of home care or hospice staff, are able to provide continuity of care to their patients and allow the patients to stay in familiar surroundings and maximize their independence. Home care RN and aide visit volume is approximately 6,500 per year.

    Intensive Care Unit Back to Top
    Our three-bed ICU can be utilized for coronary care and/or critical care. Our ICU staff is ACLS certified and updated regularly on new drug and procedure protocols. We have direct access to five cardiology and tertiary care centers. The average annual ICU admission volume is 100 per year for a total of 150 patient days.

    CCMH has its own laboratory to help establish patient diagnoses, assess the effectiveness of treatments and monitor tolerance to prescribed drugs. The clinical lab team is supervised by pathologists specially trained to serve as consultants to physicians. It is operated 24 hours a day and is fully accredited by state and national agencies.

    Lab staff includes certified medical technologists and medical laboratory technicians. Ordering and report generation is via a lab information system (LIS) computer. The lab offers annual cholesterol and glucose testing to the general public at reduced rates.

    The CCMH Laboratory department equipment includes: Abbott AXSYM which runs acetaminophin, valporic acid, CEA, gentimicin, B12/folate, and the Mini Vidas which is able to process clostridium D., ferritin, cortisol, T3, T4 and FT4. We are also able to run drug screens, R.S.V, H. pylori and ammonia. Total lab procedural volume is approximately 79,000 per year.

    The physical therapy department provides services to the general population with an area of special expertise in sports medicine. Diagnoses and treatment include those associated with work, sports, and auto accidents, post-operative patients, headaches, low back pain both chronic and acute, dizziness, and stroke. With a referral from your physician, they assess your condition and develop a plan to solve the problem as completely as possible to help you get back to your normal life. Our friendly staff includes two physical therapists, and one secretary.

    Radiology Department Back to Top
    The CCMH radiology department is fully equipped with modern technology and is staffed with highly skilled radiologists and specialists. Our patient services include mammography (1,600/year), ultrasound (1,500/year), CT scans (1,700/year), nuclear medicine (750/year), MRI (330/year), Bone Density (220/year). Other radiological services total 3,600 per year. A radiologist is on-site for readings and procedures once each week, but we are also equipped with 24-hour teleradiology. Purchased in 2005, we have a Sieman's 6-slice scanner on-site.

    Speech Pathology Back to Top
    The Speech Pathology Department staffs one speech pathologist with a master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology. With a referral from your physician, she evaluates and treats inpatients, outpatients, and home health patients of all ages who have communication and swallowing disorders. Those disorders are in the areas of speech, language, voice, swallowing, cognition, and stuttering. An additional service is the ability to perform flouroscopic evaluations of swallowing disorders in our radiology department. Please contact Gretchen Reeves, M.A., CCC-SLP for further information.
